"Information wants to be free. We should all collectively be learning from the best practices and ideas and talents of everybody on the globe."
"An AI is a perfect statistical machine and AI already knows what is a good user interface because it's looked at everything."
"Generative AI represents an opportunity for them to really kind of leapfrog everything. Not only do you catch up, you can even out compete."
"Every interface that you interact with is fully generative based on your intent and the available data and context."
"There's a potential future in which writing the code and even generating the code is not necessary anymore."
our customers are companies like OpenAI The Washington Post Under Armour A6 and what all of these companies have in common is they want faster web products and they want to build them faster but with AI we're seeing even a further acceleration of the desire for customers to leave the data center embrace the cloud and start iterating and embedding AI into everything they built so now that's become a thing that Vercel is known for throughout the world but generative AI represents an opportunity for them to really kind of Leap Frog everything it not only do you catch up you can even I'll
[Music] compete hey GMO thanks for joining us today we're super stoked and honored to have you on our podcast thank you for having me I'm so excited as well um so Geo as you know we're here in Japan and our audience our Network here at geodesic is kind of an Eclectic group uh definitely some developers some people who are more technical um but also a lot of people um who are on more of the
business side of things um you know digital strategy digital transformation um it strategy but definitely all people who are very interested in what's happening in technology and have some level of you know influence and responsibility for their digital strategies at the organizations that they work at and so um we're really excited to uh you know learn more about you um to get your insights um into what's happening in it uh especially with front-end development which is a huge area of Interest here in Japan now
and um of course to learn more about Vercel your company so you know thanks so much you know once again for spending time with us today yeah I'm psyched to speak to your community and uh Vercel does a lot of work in Japan and we have a lot of customers there absolutely as you mentioned a lot of developers know us y but what matters to business people is that we make their online presence really fast and we make their development team is really efficient so every major company today cares a lot
about their digital footprint absolutely so verel is at the heart of enabling that digital transformation and making the web really a great platform for our customers yeah and um that's a huge topic as I mentioned in Japan can you maybe just take a minute to describe Vercel and um what it is that you guys do yeah when I started the company Vercel I had previously sold my startup
to a company called WordPress so the parent company WordPress also very popular in Japan yes very popular and while I was there uh I was very excited to then leave and start a new company because I am a Serial entrepreneur I'm always having ideas Etc so I didn't actually know what I was going to build but when I left my first startup I set out to create a website to say hey I'm in business um come to verel right and I
noticed two things so I wanted to create a web presence using the latest web technologies that were open sourc at the time so react had just come out meta had open sourced it and then kubernetes had just come out Google had op sourced it and I'm an expert front and engineer who had been working on web Technologies for you know at that point nearly 20 years and I had sold a company so I wasn't new to the world of software engineering but it literally took me weeks just to
stand up one one page using these great Technologies I felt like I needed to take a PhD and of course this page was you know using sophisticated Technologies I wasn't just using a drag and drop website builder I wanted to use I wanted to deploy an application that used the best practices of software engineering and when I was faced with that problem I realized it was going to be a gigantic opportunity in
