In this workshop we’ll build a real coding agent using the AI SDK, Vercel AI Gateway, and Vercel Sandbox. You’ll start by creating a simple agent powered by GPT-4.1-mini, then add tools that let it explore and modify a local JavaScript or TypeScript project. Step by step, we’ll teach the agent to list files, read code, and even edit or create files in response to your prompts. Along the way you’ll learn how to design reasoning loops, define stopping conditions, and manage agent state. By the end, you’ll have built a working coding agent that can understand and update its own project.

Right. Hi everyone. Did you all have a good lunch? Yeah. Like the food? Good. It was nachos, right? Nachos, cheese among other things probably. Yeah. Good. All right. Um
so, hi everyone. Welcome to um well the agents workshop um or microhackathon or whatever you want to call it. For those of you who brought their laptops, you are welcome to follow along um of what I'm going to show you um in the next few minutes or a bit more than a few minutes. But if you want to follow follow along, you can yeah put in the URL you see here on the screen. Um if
you don't have your laptop with you and you want to do it at home at your own pace, you're also welcome to do it. This is the companion site. You can uh take a picture of the QR code if you want to and then you can follow along on your own at home. That also means if you now follow along and something doesn't work, you get stuck. Um again, you can refer back to the companion site here on the screen. My name is Yin. I work at Versel as a um
part of the field engineering team. And with me today is Josh here at the front. So if you have questions um during the next um let's say an hour or so, you can uh flag us down, raise your hand um or just come to us uh afterwards. We have more than enough time. And so let's get started. What we are going to cover for those of you who um just came in because they thought cool nice. Um first of all can who of you
have heard about Versel before today before reading you know the agenda? Great. Cool. Who of you has used the AI SDK beforehand? Okay. Quite a quite a lot. Nice. And who of you have shipped something with the AI SDK? Actually, no one really no one no one
has shipped anything with the AI SDK. You don't count Josh by the way. 50/50. Great. Okay. Then you are my second uh helper today. Okay. No jokes aside. So uh then we are um going to teach you today how to do it and see how easy it is. But before we get started, let's talk about a couple things here first. So the inspiration for this uh session here is essentially this blog post which basically talks about how easy it is nowadays to build
an agent, an AI agent, an agent that can you know do code reviews, coding, etc. And it basically claims you can do it in less than 400 co uh lines of code. Now we are going to do basically the same thing but we are going to use Nex.js, JS we going to use AI SDK and we are going to use Versell for that. Now if you follow Versel and many of you here have heard about Versell this talk or this session will be familiar to you because we did something similar couple
