[Music] hey perfect peeps welcome back to perfect.dev today with me i have guillermo rauch and he is the founder and ceo of vercell it's a cloud platform for static sites that fits around a jam stack workflow he's also the co-creator of next.js he previously founded learn boost and cloud up and is well known as the creator of several popular node open
source libraries like socket io mongoose and slacken prior to that he was the core developer of mootools so welcome if i could thanks for having me the right link again today it's gonna struggle i swear there we go it's it's like learning stream yard all over again every time i get into it it's a great platform it's it's fantastic i love the web we brittany and i were just talking offline and those those who haven't seen brittany yet i think brittany is now a
a co-host and also partner on coding cad dev so super excited hello brittany hey everyone um yeah so just kind of to dive into it we last spoke almost a year ago i think was the date on our actual recording so i'm super excited to start 2021 out with you and dive into vercell and next js um there's been a lot going on i'm going to read through the list real quick and then we can break down some of
it so um last time i talked to you uh vercell was still zeit so zeit became her cell and gained 21 million in funding um and then pretty much in the second half of the year uh vercell took on another 40 million series b which happened just in december a couple months ago yeah um and then kind of on the next js side which is often what i want to talk to you about anyways um you moved on from next js 9 to 10. super excited
i mean there's a lot a lot of package there i love to unpack but um this story is very much around the success of nexjs the success of versailles as a deployment and collaboration platform uh for front-end developers and you mentioned xjs9 and when you introduced uh introduced a company you said static and jam stack and one of the interesting things that happened in 2020 was nexjs kind of became this hybrid
framework for both the static and dynamic experiences uh and that happened with a bunch of features around progressively deployed into an xjs like eight nine and ten and this is where like we really catalyzed the growth that we were having because it started making sense for every developer in the world the developers that wanted to do static the developers that had very advanced dynamic needs and so we saw just tremendous growth in 2020 and uh a bunch of investors
prompted a series b round and we found amazing partners uh to continue to work on on on open source and the versailles platform and uh yeah we're really excited so is is the team growing like immensely due to that or is that a lot of like infrastructure type funding what's that look like yeah it's a great question so i would say the team is going to grow quite dramatically throughout 2021
but we want to do so very responsibly and inclusively so you know the thing that a lot of startup zoo is like oh i just raised a lot of money just bring in you know uh 50 white guys into the team and like uh we're now we're twice as big half as productive and not inclusive so we want to do i want to do this responsibly i want to be true to our open source ethos continue to invest a lot in xjs the open source project um we uh we want to bet on a lot of people that you know uh you know another
